Parity transformation of the Max-4-cut problem. The setup consists of two layers of qubits (blue bottom and red top). The bottom layer represents the 0th bit of the color and the top layer the 1st bit of the color. The qubits within the same layer interact via 4-body constraints [41] (green squares). The interaction terms \(\hat{z}^{0}_{i}\hat{z}^{1}_{i} = z^{0}_{i} z^{0}_{j} z^{1}_{i} z^{1}_{j}\) are efficiently encoded as pair gates between neighboring qubits of the two layers (black lines). Note, that the 4-body constraints are decomposed into parallelizable CNOT gates within the layers [42]
